According to the Diesel Technology Forum, Connecticut’s trucking industry is worth over $700 million. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) released information that the state’s trucking industry drives the economy by providing employment with nearly 60,270 jobs. Connecticut's has over 6,880 trucking companies where most of them are small, locally owned businesses serving a wide range of supporting businesses(both large and small). Also, the ATRI reports that each trucker earns an average annual trucking industry salary of $47,712 in Connecticut. Nearly 86% of Connecticut communities depend on Trucks to move their goods interstate. Also, it was reported that the state transports nearly 276,429 tons per day.
HVUT
Heavy vehicle use tax (HVUT) is paid annually by motor carrier vehicles operating on public highways. This annual tax is collected for highway maintenance and construction and evaluated based on the gross weight (exceeding or equal to 55,000 lbs.) and miles traveled in member jurisdiction (more than 5,000 miles/yr).
